Kate Medley is a documentarian, doing storytelling and digital communication for good causes, companies, and campaigns. In her more than ten years of work with Whole Foods Market and the Southern Foodways Alliance, Medley has established herself as a leader in storytelling about sustainable food systems and the culture of food.

Medley got her start in newspapers, working as a photojournalist at daily newspapers around the South. She continues this work for national news outlets based out of North Carolina. She brought this journalistic approach to Whole Foods, traveling the world to document the stories of farmers and producers growing our food. In her capacity as a filmmaker with the Southern Foodways Alliance, Medley has created documentary films and oral histories exploring the intersection of Southern food culture and civil rights. As an instructor at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, Medley teaches a class on visual approaches to documenting place.

A Mississippi-native, Medley is now based in Durham, North Carolina.
